Ze všech stran slyšíme pojmy jako chytrá energetická síť, smart home a smart metering. Druhá varianta je, že se domluvíte při podpisu smlouvy s prodejcem energií na ovlivňování spotřeby energie bez vaší spoluúčasti. Prodejce totiž přes smart meter a další komponenty toto dokáže bez vaší asistence. Samozřejmě bez snížení vašeho komfortu. Nemůže se tak stát, že by se vám vypnul elektrický sporák uprostřed příprav na nedělní hostinu. Podobný systém už nyní funguje např. při řízení spotřeby elektřiny pro ohřev vody v bojleru prostřednictvím HDO, kdy se cena elektřiny liší pro dobu trvání nízkého a vysokého tarifu.
